Can you use UHF to detect Partial Discharge from the outside of an air insulated HV switchgear?
We do not usually test metalclad air insulated HV switchgear with a UHF directional antenna from the outside of the switchgear as signals don’t tend to escape the gear. The outer metalwork of the switchgear acts as a faraday cage to hold the signals in.
TEV and ultrasonic are the ideal test techniques for this type of asset.
