This research revealed that the flexibility market is progressing to some level of maturity across the globe. Electricity distribution businesses have an opportunity to help support the local flexibility market and remove barriers to achieve low-cost and low-carbon future for customers.

Through studying various markets where open communication protocols are one of the key enablers for flexibility, we looked at how international open access standards can boost market participation, allow for greater standardisation and fufill the function of a distribution system operator (DSO).
