Is ultrasonic testing for PD activity of pole/structure mounted HV assets applicable?
The answer is yes. We perform ultrasonic testing using the UltraDish accessory to test for discharge whilst standing at ground level. This test can also be performed from an elevated work platform if you needed to get closer for some reason. For a pole-mounted asset, we run three types of tests to give us the best chance of detecting PD activity:
- TEV – at the base of the pole
- Ultrasonic – all HV components on the pole
- UHF – all HV components on the pole
