The client wanted to develop a coherent and realistic roadmap that stimulates an insightful/productive discussion for key stakeholders, on how best to integrate distributed energy resources (DERs) whilst maintaining a reliable, secure, safe and affordable network.
Our Approach
We supported the client in identifying the key milestones required to progress the current network from where it is today to the desired state in 2040; underpinning a realistic, cost-effective and successful DER integration by:
- Conducting extensive literature review on technical, commercial and regulatory issues associated with the integration of DERs and smart grid technologies into electric power systems
- Participating in workshops with key stakeholders to identify the future end-state aspirations
- Carry out a comprehensive analysis and synthesis of the information gathered to start the discernment process
- Combining the relevant lessons learned from our research activities, with the insights gathered from our interview/workshop activities to identify the most appropriate foundation streams
- Identify key factors that would represent the fundamental requirements to enable the integration of DERs in the electricity network.
