EA Technology led the development of National Guidelines for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with ENA providing DNSPs with a shared framework for effective and fit-for-purpose BESS design solutions.
As part of EA Technology’s Future Networks consultancy services, our work ensures cost-effective asset management, regulatory alignment, and risk management, while supporting innovative network strategy.
EA Technology’s Future Network consultancy services developed a comprehensive framework incorporating inputs from different companies, including DNSPs to align with user needs and industry feedback. This required expertise in energy and battery storage, ensuring that key technical considerations were addressed.
To ensure consistency and applicability, the framework complements existing guides and regulations, incorporating relevant policies from AEMO. It also aligns with various Australian and international standards, ensuring compliance with best practices.
By capturing a detailed set of industry-wide requirements, the framework provides a structured approach to asset management, leveraging expert knowledge to support a nationally consistent strategy for energy storage.
‟The aim is to promote consistency across industry by providing additional information to guide the development of appropriate, fit for purpose and consistent design solutions for the DNSP-owned BESS.”
Monaaf Al-Falahi
Technical Program Coordinator, Energy Networks Australia (ENA)
‟The key here was our effective approach (survey, workshop, 1:1 meeting, monthly meeting) to manage a very large group of stakeholders including over 30 representatives from all the 14 Australian DNSPs, as well as our subject matter knowledge. This has resulted in harmonising industry best practices meaningfully.”
