EA Technology launches new UltraTEV® Plus 2 GIS Barrier Spacer UHF Sensor

EA Technology is proud to announce the launch of a new GIS Barrier Spacer UHF Sensor for its market-leading UltraTEV® Plus² Partial Discharge (PD) detection instrument.

The UTP2-UHF-A2 Barrier Spacer UHF Sensor has been engineered for PD detection in Extra High Voltage (EHV) and High Voltage (HV) Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). It can be used together with HFCTs, ultrasonic contact probes, and other UHF sensors to enhance the PD survey process across multiple GIS bays.

It identifies Partial Discharge (PD) sources in EHV / HV GIS switchgear by being held against insulating barrier spacers and is typically used on GIS switchgear operating above approximately 66kV of the types shown below:

Barrier Spacer UHF Sensor defect types in EHV / HV switchgear fall into five categories, shown in the diagram below:

1. Particles and protrusions on the housings.
2. Defects in the insulator/delamination.
3. Particles and protrusions on the conductor.
4. Defects or particles on the insulator.
5. Floating/free moving particles.

This Barrier Spacer UHF Sensor, when used in conjunction with our HFCT, Contact Probe, and in-built TEV sensor, forms a complete PD detection suite tailored for GIS assets.
