Arc Flash Assessment

An Arc Flash is a sudden and explosive release of energy caused by an electrical fault — capable of producing temperatures exceeding 20,000°C, intense pressure waves, and molten metal ejection. Our specialists carry out Arc Flash Assessments to determine the likely magnitude of incident energy during such events and to help you implement the appropriate control measures.

This ensures personnel safety, equipment protection, and compliance with UK electrical safety legislation through a clear understanding of potential risks.

When?

Arc Flash Assessments should be undertaken during system design, following any network modification, or at regular intervals — typically every 3–5 years. HSE guidance requires employers to assess and manage all electrical risks, and many insurers now expect formal Arc Flash Assessment as evidence of due diligence.

Benefits

An Arc Flash Assessment helps you:

  • Quantify potential incident energy levels to define safe working boundaries.
  • Identify and correct issues with protection settings that could increase risk.
  • Determine the appropriate level of PPE and control measures for personnel.
  • Demonstrate compliance with HSE and insurer expectations for electrical safety.
  • Provide confidence that your systems are designed and operated safely under all foreseeable conditions.
